Fuel It in Action: Tracking Every Litre Across Two Depots for Civilcast
Fuel that leaves the yard in a jerry can is fuel you have stopped counting. It gets carried to a machine, some of it goes in, the rest goes somewhere, and by the end of the month the only number anyone has is the invoice.
Civilcast make precast concrete and steel products for civil projects, running busy yards full of forklifts and plant. Across two South East Queensland depots, they had no reliable way to see where their diesel was going.
Two tanks, two depots, one system
We deployed two BOX 2,250 litre self bunded diesel tanks, one at each depot, each carrying a safe fill of 2,050 litres and rated for diesel as a Class C1 combustible liquid.
Both are fully self bunded, so the outer skin is the bund and no concrete works were needed to stand them up. In a precast yard where the ground is worked hard and the layout shifts with the production schedule, that matters.
The tanks sit where the work is, alongside the racks, so nobody walks a jerry can anywhere. The important part, though, is what is mounted on the side of them.
The fuel management system
Each tank carries a GO Fill Lite fuel management cabinet. Nobody draws fuel anonymously. An operator identifies themselves at the keypad, the system authorises the dispense, and it records what came out and who took it.
Because the cabinets are connected rather than standalone, Civilcast see both depots in one place. As the video puts it:
Tracking jerry can usage is impossible, and that's why we've deployed one of our fuel management systems here, which will allow the client to track all of their fuel usage statewide.
That is the difference between knowing what you spent and knowing where it went. One is an invoice. The other is a number you can put against a machine, an operator or a job.
Why fuel security came up
The other reason this build happened is less about accounting and more about continuity. Recent market movement has made a lot of operators think harder about what happens if supply tightens or prices move sharply.
A yard with diesel on site and a delivery schedule behind it keeps producing. A yard relying on someone driving out for fuel does not, and a precast line that stops is expensive in a way that shows up days later.

Dispensing is on demand. An operator walks up, identifies, fuels and goes back to work, which is the point. A fuel management system that slows the yard down does not get used.
The pattern here
Civilcast is a good example of a job where the tank was the easy part. Two self bunded tanks off the shelf would have solved storage and left the actual problem untouched.
What solved it was putting fuel management on both of them and connecting the two sites, so a business operating across multiple yards can reconcile fuel the same way it reconciles anything else.
